New Leadership for 2018-2019 Guild Year

Our June meeting closed out our guild's 2017-2018 year, and what a year it was! We discussed business as the meeting also doubled as our AGM, and we voted in some new faces to our leadership team for the next term.

    President – Samantha Hodorek
    Vice President – Alison Harle
    Treasurer - April Waddell
    Secretary – Mary Gauvreau
    Membership – Stephanie Di Cesare
    Charity Coordinator – no candidates
Social Media & Program Coordinator - Jenn McMillan
    Snack Supervisor – Stacey O’Malley
OMQG Quilt Show Liason for CQA 2019 - Amber Mitchener and Frania Granville
    Sign-up Coordinator – Tanja Mongeon
QuiltCon Charity quilt 2019 - coordinated by Kirsten and Suzanna.

We also had the pleasure of having Andrea Tsang Jackson join us to discuss her views on community within the quilting community, and her "Here and Elsewhere Bee" quilt during her residency with Pier21 in Halifax.

We're hoping everyone is having a wonderful Summer and we can't wait to see what you've made come September!

Reflections - June BOM

Reflections - June BOM

As our guild's season comes to a close I've been reflecting on our past year, the friendships made, the techniques or styles I've explored, the designers I've learned about and the fabrics I've drooled over, I want this last BOM to reflect you! What do YOU love about quilting - what style, what form, what colour? Make a 12" (12.5" with seam allowances as per usual) block that reflects you and your quilting journey this past year and put your name on it (embroider, hand-stitch, etc.). I want EVERYONE to make this block! Just ONE! That way, whomever the lucky members are who wins a set of blocks (if everyone makes ONE there should be a few winners), will take home that piece of you, and a piece of what makes our group so special!

We're looking forward to seeing everyone next Monday! Our meeting begins at 7:20pm as we've got a full schedule and a fantastic speaker lined up!

A "President's Challenge" for our May 28th Meeting

April gave a fabulous talk on "green" sewing at our last meeting - shopping organic, re-using or upcycling textiles, Sherri Lynn Wood's Afterlife series and Pocket Quilts, and the amazing work of Gee's Bend.

With that, a challenge was set!  Take another textile from your home, repurpose it into something new and bring that to our May 28th meeting. Maybe you've got some old curtains, sheets, bits of scraps, selvages, tshirts, or sweaters (it's so endless!!) that could be remade into something new and wonderful.

Here's just one set of ideas from OrganicAuthority.com to help get the ball rolling.

Good luck, have fun and be sure to tag us with your creations using #ottmqg!
