Workshops

(1) Quilt as you Go - Sunday October 27

How exciting, we have our first workshop of the year ready with Marie Claire Charette of la Quilting Coach, hosted at Mad About Patchwork.  Let's "go" learn 7 different QAYG techniques!

"It is hard to squeeze in a big quilt through the opening of a sewing machine but you don't want to pay a huge amount of money to have your quilt professionally done.  The solution is to quilt section by section and then assembling your quilt.  Have no fear! These techniques will make it possible to quilt your own quilt! Bonus: you will have the satisfaction of completing your own quilt from beginning to end.
In this workshop, you will learn the advantages of each of 7 QAYG techniques, how to choose the best technique to achieve the results you want, how to adapt a regular pattern into a QAYG and get stunning results.
At the end of this workshop, you will have made a sample of each of the techniques so that you can make a binder for future reference."

(3) Piece Curves and Play with Transparency

Make the "Cool as a Cactus" quilt with Karen Bolan (as seen at QuiltCon 2025) and learn about curves and transparencies.

Are you intimidated by curves but love precision piecing? Make the Cool as a Cactus quilt in class, featuring pieced curves, a unique border treatment, and color palette that features transparency. Class will begin with an exercise in creating transparency effects, then we work from paper templates to accurately cut and piece large diameter curves. Students must purchase the digital pattern. Leave class with at least one block and border complete.

Students will learn to cut and precisely piece large-diameter curves from templates, assemble a quilt top with pieced borders, and plan a color palette that includes a transparency effect. This is a six-hour class with instructive lecture, demonstration, discussion, and ample time for practice and personal attention.
