We're thrilled to announce a momentous occasion for our guild – the Ottawa Modern Quilt Gallery and Opening Gala, marking a DECADE of modern quilting excellence in Ottawa!
Set to take place on June 1 and June 2, 2024, at Bayview Yards in Ottawa, this grand event promises celebration and inspiration. The venue, Bayview Yards, is located at 7 Bayview Station Rd, Ottawa, ON. There will be parking available and it is a 5 minute walk from the Bayview LRT station!
Saturday June 1
During the Opening Gala, indulge in complementary appetizers, snacks, and desserts, while enjoying live music by the talented Alanna J Brown. Sunday June 2
The Quilt Gallery will be open as a more traditional quilt show. Additionally, we will have several quilty vendors (Mad About Patchwork, Lobo and Llama, and Watergirl Quilt Co) for you to browse and shop while you immerse yourself in the gallery experience.

Submitting a Quilt
Quilts will be juried into the OMQG Quilt Gallery. There will be a “Peoples Choice” award which would be voted on during the Opening Gala with the winner receiving a free membership to the OMQG for the 2024/25 guild year and a rosette.
To submit a quilt, you must be a current OMQG member. At the time of submission, at a minimum, the quilt top is required to be completed (a photo must be submitted).

Submissions will be open until April 12, 2024. At a minimum, the quilt top needs to be completed for the submission photo. You will be notified via email between April 30 - May 6 if your quilt is accepted into the quilt show.
Size Requirements
There is no minimum size. No single side larger than 100-inches.Timelines
Jury Criteria
Each category is evaluated using the following criteria:- Design
- Elements of the modern aesthetic
- Visual impact
- Use of balance
- Use of colour
- Use of contract/value
- Fabric choices
- Innovation/Creativity
Categories
Minimalism
Quilts must demonstrate simplification of content and form of maximum visual impact.
Maximalism
In a maximalist quilt, the entire space may be densely filled with colour and layers.
Quilters might use all prints, all solids, or a combination of the two.
Improvisational
Quilts must be peeved improvisationally (without a defined pattern or template).
Specific criteria that will be considered: innovation, creativity, and execution.
Modern Traditionalism
Quilts must modernize a traditional block or quilt pattern with modern design elements.
Applique or Handwork
To be considered applique, quilts must include either machine or hand applique.
To be considered handwork, quilts must include at least one element of handwork not including binding. Specific criteria that will be considered: innovation, creativity, and execution.
Use of Negative Space
Quilts must incorporate a creative or significant use of negative space.
Specific criteria that will be considered: innovation and creativity.
Piecing
Quilts must be machine pieced and reflect a strong or innovative use of piecing.
OMQG Challenge/Workshop
Quilts that were made as part of/during an OMQG challenge or workshop.
The quilt must have been the quilt made in the workshop or challenge, and not just inspired by the workshop.
